- DeskWriter Printer Resource Version 2.1 Release Notes
- December 18, 1990
-
- Your Printer Resource Update Kit contains one two-sided Installation Disk.
- The Installation Disk contains the printer resource which controls your
- printers operation.
-
- You should install the appropriate printer resource (either the DeskWriter
- with AppleTalk® icon if your printer is connected to an AppleTalk network
- or the DeskWriter icon if connected directly to your Macintosh® computer)
- by dragging the icon to the System folder on your hard disk. You will
- not need to reload or change any of the printer or screen fonts.
-
- If you use more than one hard disk as a startup disk, be sure to copy the
- printer resource onto each of your hard disks.
-
- Before you install the printer software, be sure to make a copy of the
- Installation Disk. Use the backup copy to install the printer resource and
- keep the original disk in a safe place. Refer to your Macintosh Owner's
- Guide for instructions on making backup copies of disks.
-
- Installing the Printer Resource
-
- To install the printer resource, follow these steps. If you use more than one
- hard disk as a startup disk, repeat the process for each hard disk you use.
-
- 1. Start your Macintosh computer with your hard disk.
-
- 2. Open the hard disk icon by selecting the icon and choosing Open from the
- File menu, or by double-clicking on the icon.
-
- 3. Open the System folder on the hard disk by selecting the icon and choosing
- Open from the File menu, or by double-clicking on the icon.
-
- 4. Locate the DeskWriter with AppleTalk or DeskWriter icon in your System folder and drag it to the Trash.
-
- 5. Insert the Installation Disk into the disk drive.
-
- 6. Open the Installation Disk icon by selecting the disk icon and choosing Open
- from the File menu, or by double-clicking on the icon.
-
- 7. If you connected your printer to an AppleTalk network, select and drag
- the DeskWriter with AppleTalk icon to the System folder. If you
- connected your printer directly to your computer as a serial printer, select
- and drag the DeskWriter icon to the System folder.
-
- If you are using your DeskWriter printer on an AppleTalk network, leave the
- Installation Disk in the disk drive and follow the instructions in the next section.
-
- Naming your Network Printer
-
- If you have more than one DeskWriter printer on your AppleTalk network, you may
- want to give each one a unique name. These names identify the printer in the
- Chooser, enabling you to select your DeskWriter printer for use. If you do not
- name your printer, it automatically will be named "DeskWriter." Before you begin,
- be sure the printer is turned on and connected to the network.
-
- 1. Open the Namer utility by double-clicking on it.
-
- 2. Select the type of device to rename by clicking on the DeskWriter with
- the AppleTalk icon.
-
- 3. Select the DeskWriter name from the window on the left.
-
- 4. Type in the new name and click on the Rename button to rename the printer.
- The new name will now appear in the window.
-
- 5. Quit the Namer utility by clicking on the Quit button.
-
- You are now ready to use your printer.
